A CASE FOR SUPPORT

We are on a mission to raise £50,000 to support disadvantaged young Londoners. Help us help the youth of today be the best they can by simply donating £2 a day - the cost of just one cuppa! If we hit our target IGY will match it! Please help and donate here!

As a charity we have grown quickly to meet the needs of our community and to support the most at-risk young people. This year Carney’s Community celebrates its 10th year and never has it been more important for us to get support to cover our core costs - our amazing staff and repairs to our aging premises, both imperative to the future of all our projects.

Every year we strive to keep the charity going, an initiative inspired by a local hero, Mick Carney MBE, who made it his mission to turn around the lives of the most at-risk young people, by engaging them through his passion of boxing and support through mentoring. Mick sadly passed away in 2011, which is when George Turner and Mark Reigate decided to make the project official and a charity was born to carry on the legacy of Mick’s vision - reduce offending, improve social mobility, and help young people ‘be the best they can be’. See Carney’s Community in action here!

WHAT WE DO?

UNIVERSAL BOXING FITNESS SESSIONS: 8 times a week, run by sports qualified ex-participants - sponsored by Carney’s Community. By building physical strength and mental resilience, we help young people out of gangs and offending behaviour, and into a positive community, where they find trusted relationships and future new skills.

FIT AND FED: After boxing sessions we provide free nutritious and healthy meals to all participants.

BIKE WORKSHOPS: Which give young people the experience of participating in a functioning workplace-like environment. The weekly workshops are supported by experienced bike mechanics to help young people to service, repair, and clean bikes that they can then keep or donate to a peer.

MENTORING, KEY WORK, EMPLOYABILITY AND EDUCATION SUPPORT: We give long-term support and intensive mentoring to some of our most disadvantaged participants. We support personal development, managing offending behaviour, access to education and employment and work opportunities through our social enterprises (or supporting them to create their own).

SOCIAL ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT: Carney’s Coaches (personal training), Good Guys Decorating (painting and decorating) and Battersea Bikes (Bike maintenance).
